Invitation to VSB Open House

All Charles Dickens & Charles Dickens Annex Parents and Families are invited to the

OPEN HOUSE

Re: Charles Dickens Enrolment & Space Use

Wednesday April 8, 2015

3pm – 7 pm

Charles Dickens Main School (in the Library)

This Open House is intended as an opportunity for members of the Charles Dickens parent community to learn more about current and projected school enrolment within the Charles Dickens community.  Options identified by Vancouver School Board staff to increase enrolling space, should it be needed in the future due to in-catchment enrolment, will be shared.

Parents will be provided with an opportunity to ask questions and share concerns regarding the options presented.  Additional thoughts and ideas on how to address increasing enrolment and the possible need for increased enrolling space are welcome.

The format of this event is an Open House.  Information boards will be set up and Vancouver School Board staff will be on hand to provide information, answer questions, and receive feedback. Please drop by, between 3 and 7 pm, to learn more and to share your thoughts and ideas.

Save the Date - April 8 - VSB Open House Consultation

Regarding Enrollment/Space Challenges at Dickens, the VSB will be holding an Open House Consultation on Wednesday, April 8 at the Dickens Main School for all Parents & Guardians.

This will be an opportunity for full community discussion and feedback. The time and further details will follow in the coming weeks from the VSB.

Rally Against Public Education Budget Cuts

The provincial government is pushing school districts to make further cuts to their budgets in the next three years, delaying completion of the seismic upgrading of Vancouver schools and auditing the Vancouver School Board despite the Legislative Budget Committee's recommendation to increase funding to an adequate level.

To advocate for adequate funding for public education, Vancouver DPAC and other parent groups are organizing a Parent-led Rally Against Public Education Budget Cuts:

Sunday, April 12 at 12 noon  Vancouver Art Gallery

We are calling it F.A.C.E. - Families Against Cuts to Education: This will be a non-partisan family-friendly event to give parents/guardians an opportunity to speak up and advocate for their children.

There are already the beginnings of some plans for FACE events in other communities outside Vancouver. We are hoping this will be a BC-wide day of action in support of adequate funding for public education.

Please mark the date on your calendars and join us! Spread the word to your parent networks and other citizens concerned about public education in BC.
